Where To Find The Best Fishing On The Planet! Special Monthly Planning Guide.

Iztapa, Guatemala
Pacific Sailfish

The Reason: Widely recognized as the best place in the world for catching sailfish in numbers that at times are simply staggering, with unofficial records of 120-plus in a day on conventional tackle and more than 50 in a day on fly tackle.

Methods: Trolling ballyhoo behind teasers on conventional tackle; baiting and switching to raise em for fly anglers.

Conditions: Winter pleasant, dry season conditions make the scene even closer to perfect than other periods (if that's possible).

Cost: $$

Other Options: A marlin rod is usually at the ready in the cockpit (2007 was a banner year for blues here), and dorado often turn up under floating objects offshore for light-line excitement and of course, some great eating.

Comments: Billfishing is strictly catch-and-release in Guatemala; even on an average day you could raise 20 fish.
