Here is the report for the last few months. Sorry for the delay. We've been busy catching sails! Please let us know if you can get away this summer to take advantage of our special pricing. Please advise early if you would like time in Fall 2004 or for 2005. Bookings are very strong.
Feb 16 & 17 Gary Gilbertson group of four - 15 sailfish releases day one, 15 sailfish released day 2, 10 conventional and 5 on fly.
Feb 18 - 23 The Erich Amplatz group came all the way from Austria to enjoy Guatemala sails on fly. They fished for 6 days releasing on Maverick Feb 18 - 5 conventional, 5 on fly; Feb 19 - 2 on fly, Feb 20 - 3 on fly, Feb 21 - 5 on fly, Feb 22 - 4 on fly, Feb 23 3 on fly
Feb 24 - 27 Mike Trotter owner of Baranof Wilderness Lodge in Alaska fly fished on Maverick for 4 days releasing Feb 24 - 3 on fly, Feb 25 - 2 on fly, Feb 26 - 3 on fly, and Feb 27 - 1 on fly. We cast at a marlin on fly, but no success.
Feb 28 - March
1 Larry & Pat Eason and Dana & Jimmie Clements returned to Guatemala. Feb 28 - 8 sailfish releases, Feb 29 - 9 sailfish, and on March 1 - 15 sailfish March 2,3 & 4 The Howard Gulick group released 14, 4, 12 sailfish on conventional gear
March 6,7 & 8
Jeff Gleason released 1 and 10, 21 and 9, 24 and 12 on Maverick and Full Circle. They learned hooking up using circle hooks and the last day included 2 triples and 2 were hooked up on fly but were lost in the battle.
Ted Krychifski group released 17 sails on fly during their stay
March 15 - 19 was the International Light Tackle Association Tournament in Guatemala The tournament far exceeded expectations with the 1st day 22 boats released 640 sailfish Total for 4 days was over 1500 sailfish released! Maverick was a part of this great tourney.
Brian Kraft owner of Alaska Sportsmans Lodge joined us with his group releasing 13 sailfish during his stay.
Scooter Walters & friends Bryce & Tom returned to Guatemala and all caught sailfish on fly. 5 releases. Another marlin sighting cast to on fly, but no bite.
April 2 & 3
Dr. Schoen group released 17 sailfish on Apr 2 and 11 on Apr 3
April 5 - 8
After returning from Tikal and Antigua, Dr Jones group all caught sailfish on fly releasing 2 sails Apr 5, 6 on Apr 6, 5 on Apr 7, and 6 on Apr 8. Another 350-400 lb blue marlin came up in the teasers was hooked and later lost. April 12 Owners Robert Fallon and Scott Ruprecht fished the morning and released 4 on fly and then it was back to work.
Dr. Franklin and his group returned to Guatemala releasing 23 sails, 2 on fly for 3 days fishing.
April 18 - 22
Rick Robinson and Hans Hedgen released several sails on conventional and fly. The highlight was Apr 20 with 21 sailfish including 4 doubles and one triple. On April 21 Rick caught his first ever sail on fly, 40 min battle 95 lbs.
April 23 - 25
Bill Patrone, Manny Varella, Jon McHenry, and Guy Grullo released 17 sails on April 23, 4 sails on April 24 with several dorado and 24 sails on Apr 25 with 3 of those on fly.
Outdoor Writer Tom McIntyre and friends Carey Caruso & Terry Rockstead released 17 sailfish in 3 days of fishing. They enjoyed Antigua on the front end and Tikal on the back end of their trip.
May 1 & May 2 Zachary Group had 85 sailfish releases, one 250 lb blue marlin released, lots of dorado, and a birthday party.
The Carl McKenney group joined us and released 24 sailfish. May 10 They released 28 sailfish.
May 14 & 15
John Ellis group of 16 fished from 5 boats and in 2 days released 102 sailfish, 1 400 lb blue marlin and 45 dorados. The marlin was caught by Steve Wilson of Texas. Crosby Beane caught 2 sails on fly aboard Maverick. 4 sails were caught on fly aboard Maverick. The rest were caught using circle hooks and conventional gear.
Al Pollock from Duke Energy took a break from work and his group released 6 sailfish and 8 dorado.
