The Angling Report - April 2008
We also checked in with Sailfish Bay Lodge, operated and booked by Scott Ruprecht of Sportfishing Worldwide (800-638-7405;
). Sailfish Bay, you'll recall, is a beachfront lodge on the barrier island between Chiquimuila canal and the Pacific Ocean close to Iztapa. Sailfish Bay has six boats in its own fleet and access to others. It caters to fly and traditional anglers.
Sailfish Bay Lodge has two two-storey bungalows that house 16 to 18 guests in eight beachfront air-conditioned bedrooms with private baths. There's also a pool, outdoor bar and Jacuzzi, plus a restaurant/dining area. The open bar offers local beer and liquors, plus wine. Rates depend on the season, number of people and number of days. During the peak season of November 15 to May 15 packages range from two days and three nights at $1,870 per person for four persons, to six days and seven night at $6,890 per person for a group of only two. Rates for the rest of the year are discounted as much as 30 percent. Packages include meet-and-greet in Guatemala City, ground transfers from Guatemala City to the lodge, accommodations, meals and open bar, use of conventional tackle and lures and on night's accommodation in Guatemala City. Fly fishing equipment is available for a $20 per person/per day rental fee.
